While it's difficult to protect your home from professional thieves, most home burglaries are done by amateurs. These thieves are more easily thwarted if you employ some of these simple security precautions.

1. Conceal all wiring
   A professional burglar looks f or places where he or she can disconnect the security system.
2. Fixed faulty alarm that frequently goes off immediately
   If you have a faulty alarm that frequently goes off, get it fixed immediately and tell your neighbours that it's been repaired.
3. Pretend be a burglar an think as burglaries
   Walk around your property and ask yourself: How would I break in? Examine your house from the street, where are the blind spots? What are the most vulnerable areas and, therefore, likely to be attacked? Stand outside the windows and look in, make sure no valuables, like expensive electronics or artwork, are visible. 9. Double hung windows have cheap locks which should be replaced by heavy duty sash locks or even keyed locks
   Burglars break windows preferred method is cutting a access hole or slipping in a thin stiff wire and undoing the locking device.
10. An old trick is installing a small eyebolt in either corner. If done correctly the window can't be opened, with the eyebolt in place from the outside.
11. Get the best quality locks you can afford
    A locked front door is your first line of defense. And with locks, you get what you pay for. By spending a few dollars more for a good lock, you can potentially save thousands. So get the best quality locks you can afford.
    
    We recommend deadbolt locks. Deadbolts provide better security than sliding locks because they can’t be opened without a key. Bored-in deadlocks that are embedded into the door are even harder for a burglar to get through.
